TP volleyball stays unbeaten; Falcons defeat SM's Mission Hills

Torrey Pines kept up its unbeaten run to start the season as the Falcons defeated Mission Hills of San Marcos 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-20) in an Avocado League match on Oct. 9.

Katie Dutchman, who had 14 kills, led the Falcons. Teammate Alexa Armstrong added nine kills, and setter Jenny Woolway had 28 assists.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 in league and 6-0 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic continued its dominant start with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-14, 25-8) victory over University City in a Western League match on Oct. 9.

Kelly Reeves had 15 kills to lead the Dons, and Taylor Milton added 10 kills.

The Dons improved to 4-0 in league and 14-2 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy remained red hot with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-12) victory over Escondido Adventist Academy in a Citrus West League match on Oct. 7.

The Lions remain unbeaten through their first three league matches as they improved their overall record for the season to 12-1.

Gabriella Rothman had 10 kills to lead the Lions, and Aliya Luther and MacKenzie Norman each added five kills. Lions setter Katie Sherman had 15 assists.

Santa Fe Christian defeated Francisco Parker of San Diego 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21) in a nonleague match on Oct. 6.

MacKenzie Gilbert and Annie Francis each had 13 kills to lead the Eagles. Eagles setters Christie Duoos and Alexa Long had 15 and 13 assists, respectively.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 12-7.

Canyon Crest Academy opened Coastal South League play with an impressive 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-13) victory over Horizon of San Diego on Oct. 6.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 5-2.



- Cross country

Torrey Pines defeated Escondido in both the boys' and girls' heats of an Avocado League meet on Oct. 9.

Alli Billmeyer took first place to lead the girls team to a 24-33 victory, clocking 14:57 on the 2.5-mile course at San Dieguito Park.

Ashlyn Dadkhah (15:20) placed second for the Falcons, and Soffe Watson (16:14) placed fifth.

Andrew Ward took first place for Torrey Pines in the boys' heat, clocking 16:26 on the three-mile course to lead his team to a decisive 15-50 victory in which all of the top seven placers were Falcons runners.



- Tennis

Torrey Pines made quick work of Mission Hills in an 18-0 Avocado League victory on Oct. 8.

Bryn Raschke and Marion Boulin each went unbeaten in singles play, and doubles partners Natalie Williams and Moena Nishikawa went undefeated, too. The Falcons improved to 4-1 in league and 10-2 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic's No. 1 singles player, Anna Rudakov, went unbeaten to lead the Dons to a 17-1 thrashing of University City in a Western League match on Oct. 8.

The Dons improved to 6-0 in league and 13-0 overall for the season.



- Golf

Torrey Pines defeated Mission Hills 201-338 in an Avocado League match on Oct. 8.

Medalist Sandy Choi led the Falcons, shooting a one-under-par 35 on a nine-hole course at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. Minja Luo shot a 37 for the Falcons, and Sarah Baek shot a 39.

The Falcons improved to 4-0 in league and 11-1 overall for the season.



- Water polo

Canyon Crest defeated Mt. Carmel of San Diego 10-8 in a Valley League game on Oct. 9.

The Ravens improved to 5-0 in league and 8-4 overall for the season, as Jordan Warburg scored five goals to lead CCA.
