Baseball:
On a day when Torrey Pines' high-powered offense was mostly silent, excellent pitching and timely hitting were the difference for the Falcons in a 1-0 victory over host Poway in a North County tournament finale on April 3.

Alex Tukey and Cole Swanson combined on a four-hit shutout as the Falcons extended their winning streak to three games and improved their overall record for the season to 7-3. The Falcons went 3-1 in the tournament.

Torrey Pines, which averages 6.1 runs per game, pushed across the game winner in the top of the seventh, when Joey DeNato singled home J.J. Reading.
The victory followed an 11-4 thrashing of Carlsbad in a North County tournament game two days earlier.

Josh Sabourin was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI and Shane Bingham had three hits including a double to lead the Falcons, who broke the game open with a decisive eight-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning.

Torrey Pines starting pitcher DeNato was credited with the win after allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits in five innings.

San Diego Jewish Academy pitching standout Michael Fagan struck out 12 batters to lead the Lions to a 7-2 victory over Christian Life Academy of Escondido in a Citrus West League opener for both teams on April 2.

Fagan pitched a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks.

So far this season he's struck out a stunning 78 batters in just 37 innings pitched.
Rickey Pamensky had three hits and three RBI and Jack Detar had three hits to lead the Lions. Fagan helped his own cause, going 1 for 3 with two walks and three runs scored.
The Lions improved their overall record for the season to 8-2.

Cathedral Catholic lost to Christian of El Cajon 7-3 in a City tournament game on March 31.

Geoff Rocha and Ryan Wilkins each had two hits for the Dons, who lost for the second time in three games after winning their first seven games to start the season.

Canyon Crest Academy seems to have Santa Fe Christian's number this year.

The Ravens defeated SFC 2-1 in a nonleague game on March 30, the second time they've defeated the perennial small-school power this season. CCA also beat the Eagles 4-0 in a nonleague game on March 9.

In the most recent meeting between the two teams, CCA's Ryan Sandler tossed a five-hitter, striking out 10 batters and allowing one run on five hits and two walks.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak and was the Ravens only victory in a seven game stretch.

The Ravens fell to 5-6 overall for the season after losing to Valley Center 5-2 in a nonleague game on April 3.

Santa Fe Christian snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 nonleague victory over Linfield Christian of Temecula on April 1.

Eagles starter Nolan Gannon pitched five innings of shutout ball for the win.

Softball:
Torrey Pines' seven-game winning streak ended when the Falcons lost to Henry of San Diego 4-2 at their own Falcon Fiesta tournament on April 1.

Mary Lee had two hits for the Falcons, who were held to five hits.

The Falcons' overall record for the season fell to 12-2.

The loss followed a 1-0 tournament victory over Otay Ranch of Chula Vista in which pitching standout Sydney Gerbracht tossed a two-hit shutout.

The Otay Ranch game was the Falcons fifth consecutive shutout and their sixth in seven games.

Cathedral Catholic trounced Mission Bay of San Diego 16-3 in an April 2 Western League game that was mercy-ruled after four innings.

Lauren Walsh had two hits and three RBI as the Dons won for the third time in four games.
The Dons improved to 2-1 in league and 7-6 overall.

Girls lacrosse:
Santa Fe Christian defeated Carlsbad 7-2 to win the prestigious Western States tournament at Stanford University on April 4.

Charlotte Huguener and Amy Robertson each scored two goals to lead the Eagles and goalie Brittany Pace recorded eight saves.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 6-5.

Volleyball:
Torrey Pines opened the Avocado League with a decisive 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-13) victory over Mission Hills on April 2.

Mitch Kreamer and Sean Kitrelle each had seven kills to lead Torrey Pines, and Falcons setter Justin Chen had 33 assists.

The victory followed a thrilling 3-2 (25-23, 31-33, 23-25, 25-23, 16-14) nonleague victory over Poway on March 31.

Kreamer had 20 kills to lead the Falcons and Jannik Anderson had 10 kills and 11 blocks.

Golf:
Torrey Pines defeated Canyon Crest Academy 205-218 in an April 3 nonleague match at Doubletree Golf Course.

Medalist Carson Torchia shot a one-over-par 37 to lead the Falcons.

Andrew Burgess and James Stafford contributed 39 scores for the Falcons.

Matt Maretz, who shot a 39, led Canyon Crest Academy.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 12-1. The Ravens fell to 4-8.
